OAKLEY
I gave the cab driver the name of a gay club Iâd frequented many times before. I wasnât sure how good of an idea it was, but then I thought, what the hell. âI hate jerks like that, you know?â
âWhat did you say to him?â he asked.
âOh, I let him know he should back off and not to make a commotion. Gave him a few hard truths. Donât worry about it.â I didnât fully tell Hudson everything, but there was no harm in it. Iâd also told Tad he had no idea what our relationship was like, and it was nothing to do with him. And that if he dared come near Hudson, heâd be hearing from me.
âHere you go, sir.â We both got out at the club, which was in the heart of the city. Bright lights shimmered from inside and giant neon silhouettes of men towered above the main entrance. The atmosphere was electric when we entered. I kept Hudson close to me and zigzagged through the crowd so we could find somewhere to sit down.
âOakley, my man,â I heard behind me. Apollo, one of the bouncers approached.
I shook his hand. âHey, man. How are you? Long time no see.â
âYeah, youâve been MIA for ages. Come over this way, and Iâll get you one of the best seats.â
I followed his lead with Hudson at my back. We sat down in the booth, which had a nice view of the dance floor. âThanks, Apollo. Have a good night.â
âThis what you had in mind?â I looked over at Hudson with creased brows, suddenly unsure.
He moved closer to me and gave me a kiss. âYes, letâs have some fun!â
The waitress came over, and Hudson ordered two shots of vodka and a beer, so I ordered the same, hoping it was the right plan.
Hudson fist-bumped me. âOkay, letâs do this,â he said when the drinks arrived, and threw the first shot back.
âHudson, I want to chill here with you, but I donât want you to do this for the wrong reasons.â
He put his hand on my thigh. âOakley, back there, I felt like the whole place was closing in around me, but Iâm good now. So drink your shot.â Then he gave me a smile.
I wasnât completely sold on his forced cheerfulness. I had one more question. âBut itâs totally crowded here. Will you be okay?â I looked around the packed dance floor and all of the surrounding booths.
When he kissed me, I could taste the alcohol on his lips, and he placed his hand on my crotch area. Damn. âDefinitely, Iâm not feeling suffocated by nosy teachers and stupid neighbors here, and most importantly, I have you.â
I separated my lips as he kissed me again, and when his tongue darted in to explore my mouth, the music drowned out the groan that escaped me. âOh god. What you do to me.â
He took a shot and then another. Later Hudson was more talkative than Iâd ever heard him. He moved his hands around as he spoke and was loud.
